What is a VIN number?

Vehicle Identification Number: a unique number given to each motor vehicle for identification purposes.

A Vehicle Identification Number, also known as a "VIN number" is a 17-character identifier issued to each car, truck, motorcycle, and even scooters and mopeds. Each VIN is unique and, when decoded, identifies the vehicle's manufacturer, features, and serial number. Think of it as a vehicle's "fingerprint" used for reporting accidents, title problems, insurance incidents, and more.
